Unit 3 Reflection

Unit 3 Reflection  How did you choose your genre/medium for your Unit 3 Project? What specific attributes of your argument and your projected audience helped you arrive at that decision? Adriana: This project was very fun and engaging as it encouraged us to get outside of our comfort zone and try a different medium to express the research we found. We chose the medium for a podcast because we wanted to set a casual tone for our listeners and portray ourselves as a relatable voice. We wanted the audience to feel as though they are listening to a personal conversation as we dove into a topic that we are extremely familiar with. Our argument about social media affecting coursework is something that we experience on a daily basis as Sophomores in college and a podcast felt like the best medium to express our opinions while also backing them up with our findings.  Alexia: I think we kind of came up with it together, and I would say that it was kind of planted a bit ago when we list...

Why do students with already overwhelming schedules turn to social media as a “break,” even when it makes their workload feel...

Graphic Novels

Graphic Novels  The graphic novel I picked was "Nancy" by John Stanley. This novel was very interesting due to the vibrancy of the images and the quirky dialogue. There were about 7 stories throughout the 50 pages I read, and they all followed the main character, Nancy, who is a little girl. Each story pertained to a different scenario in her life with her friends and family. It often depicts the little girl being bossy and a bit dumb in some cases. She is constantly making mistakes, and other people have to help her. These stories were first created in 1933 for a comic strip, but weren't published in a book until 2009. This is apparent in the humor used, which would be considered pretty offensive in modern times. In addition to this, there are only white people throughout the book, and it has no diversity. This book is a very good look into what was popular in the early 1900s and how humor was seen differently. It really shows how humor itself is inherently political, a...
